Red Tails is a 2012 military film directed by Anthony Hemingway about the Tuskegee pilots, a group of African-American combat pilots who participated in World War II . The film is based on the book by John B. Hallway “Red Tails, Black Wings: Black Men of BBC America” and is a remake of the film “ Pilots from Taskigi ” (1995). The world premiere took place on January 20, 2012. Lucasfilm's twenty-third film.

Story
In 1944, when the air war over Europe enters a lethal phase with an increase in the loss of bombers, the 332th fighter group (Taskikigi Pilots), consisting of young African American US Air Force fighter pilots, survived with racism the recruitment and training in Taskigi, which, finally sent to battle in Italy. Although they flew the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk , but on stormtrooper missions they destroy the train and enemy ground vehicles, Taskigi Pilots admit that they can never fight the Luftwaffe in a fighter battle. A friendly group of captain Martin “Easy” Julian ( Nate Parker ), 1st Lieutenant Joe “Lightning” Little ( David Oyelowo ), 2nd Lieutenant Ray “Ray Gun” or “Junior” Gannon ( Tristan Wildes ), 2nd Lieutenant Andrew Smokey Salem ( Ne-Yo ), and 2nd Lieutenant Samuel Joker George ( Elijah Kelly ), led by Major Emanuel ( Cube Gooding Jr. ) and Colonel AJ Bullard ( Terrence Howard ), are facing military bureaucracy and the struggle went on an equal footing.
A fight develops between neighbors and best friends, each of whom has their own internal demons: Lightning is a hot and reckless pilot who takes too many risks, while Easy is an alcoholic and prone to self-doubt. After returning to base from a combat mission, Lightning falls in love with an Italian girl named Sofia ( Daniela Roy ), and begins to build a relationship with her.

Filming
Filming began in March 2009 and took place in the Czech Republic , Italy , Croatia and England [1] .
This is the first Lucasfilm film since “ The Murder On The Radio ” (1994), which has no affiliation with the Indiana Jones franchises and Star Wars . It is also the last film for George Lucas as head of the company. A number of scenes were shot by George Lucas himself. In addition, he was involved in the creation of the plot, but was not indicated in the credits as its author.

- It was believed that throughout the war, the 332th Taskquigi group did not lose a single escorted bomber. But that was not true. The group lost 25 bombers, which, nevertheless, was also a very good result [2] .
