Sylvia lugens (lat.) - a species of nestling birds from the family Slavkov . Distributed in Africa [2] . They live on arable land, arid savannahs and tropical and subtropical arid forests, at an altitude of 1400 to 3700 meters above sea level [3] . Live alone or in pairs. Often they can be seen on high acacias [4] . The body length of the birds is about 13 cm [4] [5] . Singing: a complex, incoherent slow and lazy trill - “ sweet-siite-s-sweet-wii ”, and the monotonous loud “ h-wii ch'vii ” [4] .

Three subspecies are known [1] :
- Sylvia lugens griseiventris - Bale Mountains (south central Ethiopia ) [1] ;
- Sylvia lugens jacksoni - southern Sudan and Uganda ( Diding and Imatong mountains ), Kenya , northern Tanzania , northeast Congo ( Marungu highlands ) and Malawi [1] ;
- Sylvia lugens lugens - Ethiopian Highlands (except for the Bail Mountains) [1] .
