Biography
Born February 10, 1953 in the city of Sverdlovsk in a working class family [1] . According to my own recollections: “My parents come from the Shadrinsky district of the Kurgan region . Simple, hardworking people. Father was even illiterate. Faith was not present in their lives, but they were very kind, moral people. A big role in my life was played by my grandmother, who was distinguished by strong faith. She took me to church, I am grateful to her <...> Our family lived in the working district of Uralmash . He studied, like everyone else, in an ordinary Soviet school. But I remember how in 3-4 grades I secretly, through the whole city, went to the only church of John the Baptist that was functioning at that time. ” [2] .
In 1970 he graduated from secondary school No. 27 of the city of Sverdlovsk. In 1970 - 1972 he worked as a laboratory assistant at the Ural Polytechnic Institute . In 1972-1974 he served in the Soviet Army , and in 1974-1976 he worked at the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute [1] . In those years, Victor underwent choral obedience in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Sverdlovsk [3] .
In 1976 he entered the second grade of the Moscow Theological Seminary . In October 1977 he was admitted to the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra [1] . According to his own memoirs: “I had obedience to sing on the choir. Everything was new, but he studied anxiously, listening to all the comments and advice ” [2] .
On March 30, 1978, the governor of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Archimandrite Jerome (Zinoviev), was tonsured a monk with the name Michael in honor of the holy Archangel Michael [1] .
On April 22 of the same year, the rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, Archbishop Vladimir Dmitrovsky (Sabodan), was ordained hierodeacon [1] .
In 1979 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary, and entered the Moscow Theological Academy [3] .
From 1982 to 1984, continuing his studies at the Moscow Theological Academy, he served in the Cathedral in the name of John the Baptist in Yekaterinburg [3] .
On September 21, 1984, Archbishop of Sverdlovsk and Kurgan Plato was ordained a hieromonk and appointed rector of the St. Nicholas Church in the village of Nikolo-Pavlovskoye, Prigorodny District, Sverdlovsk Region [1] [3] .
In 1990, the Archbishop of Sverdlovsk and Kurgan Melchizedek (Lebedev) was elevated to the rank of hegumen . In 1993, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite and introduced to Patriarch Alexy II and the Holy Synod as a candidate for the bishops of the newly formed Kurgan and Shadrinsk diocese [1] .
On April 3, 1993, in the Epiphany Cathedral of Moscow , his consecration took place as bishop of Kurgan and Shadrinsky , performed by: Patriarch Alexy II , Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhotursky Melchizedek (Lebedev) , Archbishop of Yaroslavl and Rostov Platon (Udovenko) , Kursky and Ryl Archbishop Solnechnogorskiy Sergei (Fomin) , Bishop of Kostroma and Galich Alexander (Mogilev) , Bishop of Istra Arseny (Epifanov) , Podolsky Bishop Victor (P'yankov) , Bishop Benderskii Vincent (Morar) , epis op Saransky and Mordovsky Varsonofy (Soudakov) , and Bishop Chimkent Tselinograd Elevfery (Kozorez) , and Bishop Yakutsky Vilyusky Herman (MORALINA) [4] .
At the time of the creation of the diocese, there were about 20 parishes operating in it, including two in Kurgan [2] . Temples were destroyed temples, there was an acute shortage of clergymen [3] .
From the moment he entered the department, he was the holy archimandrite of the Dalmatian monastery . With his blessing, on August 6, 1994, the revealing of the relics of the Monk Dalmat of Iset took place, and the Monk Dalmat was glorified as a locally revered saint, his name is listed on the Cathedral of Siberian Saints . Bishop Michael compiled the first troparion and kondak to the saint and presented the icon of the saint to the Dalmatian monastery [5] .
Over the fifteen years of his bishop's ministry, Orthodoxy in the Trans-Ural region has strengthened: the number of parishes has increased several times, many old churches have been restored and new ones have been built for the first time in many decades. The Church’s social ministry developed, the diocese interacted with the authorities, the Orthodox life in the region again became an integral part of society. A special event for the clergy and laity of the diocese were the celebrations associated with the acquisition and transfer of the relics of June 10, 2007 to the relics of the holy martyr Arkady Garyaev, who served in the Nikolsky church in the village of Borovsky, Kataysky district [3] .
He died on August 11, 2008, died at his country house in a suburb of Kurgan. The alleged cause of death of the bishop was a detached blood clot. It is impossible to establish the exact cause of the sudden death of Vladyka, since according to the Orthodox tradition, it was decided not to open the body of the clergyman [6] .
On August 13, the funeral service in the church of the Right Prince Alexander Nevsky was led by the Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhotursky Vincent [7] . Bishop Michael was buried on the territory of the Cathedral of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, opposite the altar [3] .
