Building
The building is located in the center of Perigueux , on the corner of 10 Saint-Fron and Notre Dame, less than a hundred meters north of Saint-Fron Cathedral. The Masonic Lodge and other rooms of this Masonic Temple are located in the building.
History
At the end of the 18th century, a comedy hall was opened in the premises of the old inn north of Saint-Fron Cathedral. It became the first "theater" in Perigueux, very doubtful in terms of building safety [2] . From 1836 to 1838 a new theater was built in one of the boulevards in Perigueux, worthy of being called so [2] .
The room became free, and in 1841 it was leased to the local Masonic lodge, which had been in use since 1842 , and in 1857 became the owner of the building [3] .
In 1858, the city decided to pave the street of Saint-Fron, and three years later ceded the bed to the ground on the western side of the building along the street. The construction of the new facade was carried out by the architect Antoine Lambert and the sculptor Grasse. The construction was carried out in 1868 - 1869 [3] .
The front side, facing Notre Dame, is not so old and dates from the period 1885 - 1901 [3] .
The sculptures depicting the Masonic emblems were destroyed in early 1941 by order of the Vichy regime and were restored only in 1987 [3] .
In 1975, the Masonic lodge in Perigueux was included in the list of historical monuments of facades and roofs [1] .
Architecture
The facades of the building on the street of Saint-Fron from the west and on the street of Notre Dame from the north are made in the Moorish style with elements of Balkan jewelry [1] . The windows of the facades are decorated with mashrabias . On the main facade, windows on the first floors are crowned with sculptures of iconic symbols of Freemasonry - compasses and squares , plumb , trowels , hammers ... The entrance is crowned with a tympanum decorated with a lot of foliage, in the center of which there is a five-pointed star . The central upper window is framed by pilasters and crowned with a triangular pediment . Everywhere on the facades, the lower edge of the roof is emphasized by a geometric frieze .
