Biography

Sergei Medvedev was born on June 2, 1958 in Kaliningrad in the family of a television journalist. He began his professional career in a local newspaper.

In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University [1] , completed training at the Higher Economic Courses at the USSR State Planning Commission.

From 1981 to 1991, he worked at the USSR State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting ( USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting), made reports and essays from different republics and regions of the country. With a voice recorder in his hand, he traveled around the country, making reports from the field.

In 1991-1992, Medvedev worked as a columnist for the Ostankino All-Union State Television and Radio Broadcasting Studio of the Television Information Programs. After some time, he became the host of the Vremya information program and reported on the first congresses of deputies, as well as the 120 minutes program (later Good Morning on ORT) [2] .

During the August events of 1991, Medvedev was the only journalist who was able to talk on the air about the events in the capital at that time [3] . For this report Medvedev was fired, but not for long [4] . Soon he returned to television as a columnist for the Ostankino Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Information Agency . During this period of activity, Medvedev became the main interviewer for top officials of the state. He interviewed Mikhail Gorbachev , Anatoly Chubais , Viktor Chernomyrdin , Boris Yeltsin , Yuri Luzhkov .

From March 15, 1995 [5] to August 13, 1996 - Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation and Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation B.N. Yeltsin [6] [7] [8] .

After resigning from the post of press secretary, Medvedev returned to television and became the first deputy general director of ORT [9] , from where in November 1997 he left for the public relations department of RAO UES of Russia [10] . In 2000, Medvedev participated in the elections to the State Duma of the third convocation in the Kaliningrad constituency No. 84 as an independent candidate [11] , but won the second place by the results of the vote [12] . In 2007, in the Duma elections, he ran for the Just Russia party membership list for deputies from the Kaliningrad region [12] .

In 2001-2003, Medvedev was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTS Independent Television Company CJSC (Moscow).

Since 2003, Medvedev served as chairman of the board of directors of the independent television company Ostankino [13] .
