Kfar Sava (in common parlance also Kfar Saba ; Ivr . כְּפַר סָבָא ) is a city in Israel , located in the Central District. Geographical position

Kfar Sava is a city in the southern part of the Sharon Valley , located about 10 km north of Petah Tikva and 15 km from Tel Aviv .

History

"Kfar-Sava" is mentioned by Joseph Flavius as the ancient Jewish name of the Hellenized city ​​located here in his time (I century AD) [1] [2] . During archaeological excavations 2 km from the city center, remains of buildings from the Roman period were found. The first lands of Kfar Sava were acquired in 1892 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild and were used for agricultural purposes - for vineyards , olive , almond and citrus plantations. The first settlers lived in adobe huts. In 1913, the first 12 houses were built. In 1937, the settlement had 3000 inhabitants . In 1962, Kfar Saba received city status.

The standard of living in Kfar-Sava is above the national average [3] , large arrays of plantations and gardens still preserved give Kfar-Sava the appearance of a garden city. On the eastern outskirts of the city has grown a large industrial zone and densely populated residential areas.

Population

According to the Central Statistical Bureau of Israel , the population at the beginning of 2018 was 100,039 people [4] . The majority (96.1%) are Jews . About 14% of the population are repatriates from the former USSR .

In Kfar-Sava, a rather expensive and high-quality housing is being built, the level of municipal services is also at a high level. Economy

In the industrial areas of Kfar Sava there are many enterprises of various profiles. There are textile enterprises, a factory producing medical equipment, the Teva pharmaceutical factory, enterprises of rubber products, metal processing, and agricultural equipment production. All industrial zones are being expanded and completed, the construction of a new industrial park is planned . There are several large shopping centers in the city.

Northeast of the city, a field has been found that contains, according to expert estimates [5] , 980 million barrels of oil , however, due to the large depth of occurrence (over 4 km ) and the complex geological conditions, its development is now recognized as economically inexpedient.

Education

There are 92 kindergartens, 18 basic schools (grades 1–6), 6 intermediate schools (grades 7–9), 9 secondary schools (grades 10–12), religious educational institutions (kindergartens and schools) in Kfar-Sava. The municipality invests heavily in experimental pedagogical projects, the introduction of modern teaching and education methods, and the expansion of curricula in schools in the city. In high school, schoolchildren are provided with a wide range of grades and electives: from science and technology to design and art.

Cultural life, leisure, sports

Kfar Sava offers a wide range of cultural institutions, opportunities for self-education, leisure, and sports for people of all ages. There is the Palace of Culture with a large concert hall and amphitheater, which hosts tours of Israeli and foreign theaters, concerts, pop performances. In the city house of culture there are clubs and studios for children and adults. The Kiryat Sapir Center hosts a variety of cultural events, lectures, a pedagogical center, and sports sections. There are many music and dance ensembles in the city that tour throughout Israel and abroad, there is a conservatory and an adult education center. There is also an archaeological museum, a museum of the city’s history and an art gallery. Kfar-Sava has good conditions for sports - there are swimming pools, tennis courts, training halls and sports grounds.

The city is based hockey team " Horsez Kfar Sava ."

Medical care in the city is at a high level , residents have the opportunity to receive medical care at the hospital “Meir”, which is located on Chernikhovski Street.
