Rock 'n' Roll Radio Allnighter

Rockets from Russia is a cover band that opens weekly nightly rock discos Rock 'n' Roll Radio Allnighter by DJ Spirin , performing world rock hits of different years: from Little Richard , Elvis Presley , The Beatles and The Rolling Stones via Jefferson Airplane , Smokie , Kiss, and Sex Pistols before The Cure , Green Day , The Offspring, and Nirvana . The first concert took place on December 10, 2010 at the Tochka club.

On September 12, 2011, Rock 'n' Roll Radio Allnighter Megamix was introduced - a medley of songs that the Rockets from Russia group played at their concerts [1] .

Fathers and the Dead

On July 26, 2011, a project was launched entitled “Fathers and the Dead: Songs of the Golden Underground” [2] . According to the idea of the musicians, it should include cover versions of songs from the first albums of members of the Moscow rock laboratory of the late 80s and early 90s: “ Va-Bank ”, E.S.T. , " Sailor Silence ", " Leg brought down! ”,“ Mongol Shuudan ”,“ Pogo ”, NAIV and others.

One of the main goals of this project is to show modern rock fans that 20 years ago they composed cool, positive, powerful songs in Moscow cellars, quite in the spirit of Western rock music. That at that time were not only St. Petersburg zaum and Siberian gloom.

- Dmitry Spirin [3]

Part 1

The first single was the song “At the Cottage” of the group “ Va-Bank ” from the 1991 album “Drink for me !!”. The Internet presentation of the song took place on July 28, 2011 on the website Lenta.ru . The radio premiere took place on July 29, 2011 in the charts of Our Radio " Chart Dozen ."

“At the cottage” is one of the first songs of “Va-Bank” that we even heard. In 1991, it sounded completely different than the music that was quoted in the then underground . She did not load meanings, she was not strained and abstruse. She was about simple joys, she was cheerful and cheerful. She seemed to promise an easy and relaxed life. It was the songs with this mood that we ourselves wanted to play. Now, after 20 years, we decided to make a rockable verse and change the tonality - to make it lighter and louder than the original “Va-Bank”. Thanks to Sasha Sklyar , he approved our version.

In the summer, a video clip was shot for the song , which premiered on October 24, 2011 on the Lenta.ru website [5] .

The second radio single was the song “Will and Reason” of the group “ Aria ” from the 1986 album “ Who are you with?” ". On September 28, 2011 she made her debut in the program of Katya Sundukova and Luda Streltsova “Second shift”, and then on October 15, 2011 she got into the “ Chart Dozen ”.

Part 2

The third radio single was the song “What a pity” of the “ Bravo ” group from the 1993 album “ Moscow Beat ”.

In fact, embarking on the implementation of the project "Fathers and the Dead", "Missiles from Russia" planned to make songs of Moscow underground groups from the mid-late 1980s or early 1990s. Based on this concept, it would be more correct for us to make any track from the Bravo heritage, when Zhanna Aguzarova shone in the group. It became clear that we simply could not make a vivid cover for any song that had entered the people's memory, with such a clear, clean, strong and memorable female vocals. But the song, performed by Valery Syutkin when he was his "dude from Moscow," came up to us as well as possible [6] .

Five or six, or maybe seven years ago, I turned out to be a guest on the tribute to the Bravo album of the Star Catalog , where Bravo made their own cover versions, but with invited singers from different groups. And I just chose one of my favorite songs, “What a pity.” So it turns out that the “Rocket” made a double cover - for the song “Bravo” and for the cover of the group “Bravo” with me as a vocalist for the same song ” [7] .

Part 3

According to Dmitry Spirin , the third part is the last in the series “Fathers and the Dead: Songs of the Golden Underground” [8] . Funds for her recording were raised with the help of the group’s fans , by crowdfunding [9] .

On February 4, 2013, for the first time, a cover version of the song “Paper Flowers” of the group “ Sounds of Mu ” was sounded on the radio. On February 28, 2013, all three songs from the new single were presented as part of an acoustic radio concert in the Second Shift program [10] .

On April 29, 2013, the Lenta.ru website hosted an online presentation of the song “Paper Flowers” by the group “ Sounds of Mu ”.

The cover version of the song “Paper Flowers” of the group “Sounds of Mu” was made not by chance. Firstly, without this group it is really impossible to imagine the musical section that was studied by the "Rocket" in all three parts of the project "Fathers and the Dead." Secondly, the concert of the Mamonov and Aleksey group in the Hermitage Garden Theater, either in 1988 or in 1989, became one of the real, adult underground concerts I visited. Thirdly, the songs “Sounds of Mu” are almost impossible to recycle, they are so original and often very far from what we call traditional rock.
