“Gorokhov Field” in the name of the temple comes from the historical name of the area where the church stands. The district, in turn, owes its name to the state peas yard located there in the 18th century. The 1831 guidebook says [1] :
Passing the house of Count Razumovsky , you can see at a crossroads of good architecture the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, decorated on the outside under the eaves of the Apostles with a rather skillful brush, inside the temple is beautifully and tastefully decorated. One was built in 1793, and as you know, on the land of Count Razumovsky; however, one should not assume that this temple was again built in this place, for the annals mention the temple here, which was still in the reign of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich .
The existing church was built in 1788-1793. in the style of Moscow classicism and for a number of details is attributed to the architect Matvey Fedorovich Kazakov . The house church at the estate of A.K. Razumovsky has existed since 1733, when the then owner of the estate, Count M.G. Golovkin, ordered its construction.
Relics of the temple are considered a cross-reliquary with particles of the relics of St. Nicholas, St. Sergius of Radonezh, right. Simeon the God-Receiver, St. St. Andrew of Crete and other saints of God, a particle of the Holy Sepulcher, a particle of the tomb of the Mother of God and a particle of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord; icons of the Mother of God "Unexpected joy" and "Sovereign", icon of St. Nicholas.
