Kurakh (river)

Kurakh (Lezg. Kyurag VatsI ) is a river flowing through the territory of the Kurakh and Suleiman-Stalsky regions of Dagestan . In the upper reaches is called Akarlets, in the lower - Arag.

Content

Geography

It originates from springs on the northeastern slope of the Samur Range and, merging in the village of Kasumkent with the Chiraghchay River, forms the Gulgerachay River.

Hydrology

The main phase of the river regime in the upper reaches is spring-summer floods, in the lower - spring floods and summer-autumn floods. The highest expenses for the year are spent in the summer during rain floods. The average annual flow rate is 5.09 m³ / s, the maximum - 243 m³ / s [2] .

Tributaries

The largest tributaries: Zagar-kam , Arach , Kochhurchay , Khpejchay .

River Studies and Water Management

The river was studied at the hydrological posts Kurakh and Kasumkent (active). River waters are used for irrigation.
