Juozas Matsyavichyus ( lit. Juozas Macevičius ; born October 4, 1928 , Joniskis - November 17, 2011 , Vilnius ) - Lithuanian poet and translator; Honored Worker of Culture of the Lithuanian SSR (1965).

Biography
He graduated from high school in Joniskis. In 1946-1949 he studied at the Faculty of Law of Vilnius State University . From 1947 (according to other sources from 1948 [1] ) until 1951 he worked in the editorial offices of the newspaper Tesa ( Tiesa ), the magazine Švyturys ( Švyturys ). In 1951-1952 he studied at the A. Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow . In 1953-1954 he worked in the editorial office of the newspaper “Kauno tiesa” . At the same time he was secretary of the Kaunas branch of the Lithuanian Writers Union.
He graduated from the Higher Literary Courses at the Gorky Literary Institute (1957-1959). In 1959-1964 he worked in the editorial office of the weekly newspaper of the Lithuanian Writers Union “ Literature ir myanas ” ( Literatūra ir menas ; Literature and Art).
From 1956 he was a member of the Lithuanian Writers Union, in 1959-1965 he was a candidate member of the board of the Lithuanian Writers Union, from 1965 he was a member of the presidium of the board, in 1965-1970 he was a secretary of the board of the Lithuanian Writers Union. He worked in the editorial office of the monthly literary and artistic journal of the Lithuanian Writers Union “ Pärgale (magazine) ” ( “Pergalė” ; “Victory”; 1964–1965 and 1970–1985), in 1976–1985 the editor-in-chief of the magazine.
Since 1961 he was a member of the CPSU. Husband of the poetess Ramute Miss .
Creativity
He began to print poems in 1947. The first book of poetry was published in 1949. Together with Antanas Joninas wrote a poem in the form of a letter in verses to “Comrade Stalin” (1950). She went out again in 1951; in 1952 it came out under the title “Letter to the Leader” ( „Laiškas vadui: poema“ . Vilnius: Valstybinė grožinės literatūros leidykla, 1952), was translated into Russian . Together with Joninas, he published a book of lyrical essays and reports “Pavasarėjančiais arimais” (Vilnius: Valstybinė grožinės literatūros leidykla, 1957).
At the Lithuanian Academic Drama Theater, based on the poetry of Macevičius, a poetic performance “Atėjau į XX amžių” (1971) was staged.
Translated poems and plays by V.V. Mayakovsky into Lithuanian (“What is good and what is bad”, 1952, 1970; selected poems, 1961; “ Mystery Buff ”, “Bedbug”, “Bathhouse”, 1966), verses Demyan Poor , the story “Tashkent is a city of bread” by A. S. Neverov (1958), “Do not give the queen” by S. V. Sartakov (1963).
He also translated the novel of the Uzbek writer Askad Mukhtar “Chinara” ( 1973 ) and the story of Gulliver ’s adventures on a flying island ( “Guliveris skraidančioje saloje . ” Vilnius: Vaga, 2000) by Jonathan Swift . He translated poetry by Sandor Petofi and Maxim Tank , novels by P. G. Abrahams , G. Hesse , the autobiographical book “Seven Years in Tibet” by Heinrich Harrer and other works.
