History

The division was formed in Alabino since July 1941 as the 1st mortar division of the 5th Guards mortar regiment

According to the then existing practice, due to the shortage of rocket mortars, the divisions were often used as separate ones, and this one was no exception, being sent separately from the regiment, first to the North-Western Front , then to the Volkhov Front , where on December 28, 1941 it became separate, receiving number 44 .

As part of the army as the 44th Guards Mortar Division from December 28, 1941 to August 3, 1944.

In January - March 1942 he took part in the Luban operation , supporting the advance of the 52nd Army and the 2nd Shock Army with fire

On March 17, 1942, this and the 9th divisions were combined as part of the 21st Guards Mortar Regiment, and the division went on its entire further combat path.

On August 3, 1944 it was renamed the 3rd mortar division of the 21st Guards mortar regiment , thus ceasing to exist as a separate military unit.
