Description
The Untold Tales of Spider-Man comic book series was launched by Marvel Comics in September 1995. Each episode of the series was priced at 99 cents, while most other comics cost either $ 1.50 or $ 1.95 [1] . In other comic book series about Spider-Man at that time, there was a second Clone Saga , during which it turned out that the real Spider-Man was not Peter Parker, but Ben Reilly [2] . Untold Tales of Spider-Man distanced himself from this story and instead included new stories about Spider-Man's early career.
| This is a story for me. When I write Untold Tales of Spider-Man , there is far from a clean sheet in front of me - I have everything that Stan created and everything that came after. Sometimes I feel like a historian studying World War II or France from the time of Napoleon , figuring out what happened between the events we know. The only difference is that the story that I am studying is fictitious, and instead of finding out what happened between the events we know, I invent them myself [3] .Kurt Buseck |
In total, under the title Untold Tales of Spider-Man , 29 issues were released: # 1-25; # -1 (minus the first), released in July 1997 between releases # 22 and # 23 as part of the Marvel Flashback Month; two annual releases for 1996 and 1997, and a single issue of Strange Encounter ( Rus. Clash with Strange ), released in June 1998.

With the exception of issue # -1 (minus the first), which took place before the events of Amazing Fantasy # 15, the untold Tales of Spider-Man comic strip runs between the first issues of The Amazing Spider-Man [5] , the main comic book series about Spider-Man. Untold Tales of Spider-Man # 1 begins after The Amazing Spider-Man # 6, then throughout the series the stories are intertwined and, in some cases, occur within separate editions of The Amazing Spider-Man , acting as midquels .
In the first issues of Untold Tales, Spider-Man fights both super-villains new to the reader, Scorcher [6] , Batwing [7] , the Space People team [8] , and the old Sandman [9] and Vulture [10] .
Reaction
Mark Buxton, author of articles on the Comic Book Resources web portal, wrote that Untold Tales of Spider-Man was able to prove that there is a demand for comics about Spider-Man in his school years, thereby contributing to the launch of the Ultimate Spider-Man series. He also noted that screenwriter Kurt Buysick managed to “crank up the impossible by creating comics that made the original episodes of The Amazing [ Spider-Man ] shine even brighter” [5] .
In his review of the Untold Tales of Spider-Man Omnibus, Adam Chapman, author of articles by the Canadian magazine CGMagazine, described the series as very funny, “friendly to new readers and at the same time pleasing to serious Spider-Man fans.” The reviewer expressed the opinion that Buysik managed to convey the spirit and essence of the original comics by Stan Lee , and the work of the artist Oliffe seemed to him one of the best in his career. As a result, he rated the collection 9 points out of 10 possible [2] .
