The 8th front was formed on November 16, 1942 from the forces of the Southern Army Group for the anti-landing defense of the territories of the Solomon Islands and the island of New Guinea occupied by Japan . They took part in the campaign in the Solomon Islands , the Bougainville campaign and the New Guinea campaign .
