Summary

As in previous years, the exhibition was dominated by announcements and presentations from three major console manufacturers: Nintendo , Microsoft and Sony . After the end of the exhibition, industry analysts rated Nintendo’s Wii U presentation as the biggest event at E3 2011 [2] [3] , noting that the demonstration of Sony’s PlayStation Vita portable console also generated considerable press interest [4] [5] . Some media publications have described the Wii U as the first officially presented console of the eighth generation [6] [7] . Microsoft did not have any significant hardware announcements, but showed a number of games developed for using its Kinect controller [8] .

Press Conference

Konami held its own press conference before the start of E3 2011 - June 2, 2011 - and showed its future games on it. The show featured live events in a number of cities: Los Angeles , Toronto , São Paulo and Mexico City [9] .

Microsoft held a press conference on June 6, 2011 ( UTC − 7 ), one day before the start of E3. It focused on the Xbox 360 and was called "Xbox 360 E311 Media Briefing" [10] . The game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was shown during the Microsoft press conference [11] .

Sony's press conference also took place the day before the start of the E3. It was sent to the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3 .

The Nintendo press conference was held on June 7, 2011 at 9 am ( UTC − 7 ) at Nokia Theater [12] . Nintendo revealed the successor to its Wii console , the Wii U , which is scheduled for release in 2012. [13] A prototype console was available for visitors to the exhibition, in which some games could be played [14] .
