Bridge Bank Street , Eng. Bank Street Bridge - a bridge in Ottawa . Is a section of Bank Street , passing through the channel Rideau . It connects the urban areas of Glib (north bank of the canal) and Old Ottawa South (south bank). It passes over the city roads of the Queen Elizabeth Highway (north coast) and Colonel Baja Highway (southern coast).
Originally in 1866 a wooden bridge was built on this site. A few years later, in its place, a steel swivel bridge was built, allowing the passage of small vessels. The modern bridge was built in 1912 - it was designed high enough so that there was no need to breed it or turn it. By the 1970s the bridge came to an emergency condition, the movement of freight transport on it was forbidden in 1981. Some time there was talk of dismantling it, but in the end the bridge was completely restored in 1993.
