The Solar Trail (also known as the “Tsarskaya” and “Horizontal” from the time of the Russian Empire ) is a trail on the southern coast of Crimea , a popular tourist route . The path runs from the Rosa Luxemburg sanatorium (Gaspra village ) to the Livadia sanatorium, next to the Livadia Palace . The trail is decorated with decorative sculptures and plantings of rare exotic trees and shrubs, original benches for relaxation. In the oak-hornbeam forest, even on sultry days, pleasant coolness reigns. The path is called a healing (or health path), since almost all the healing factors of the local climatic resort act on it. From the observation platforms, beautiful panoramas of the South Coast open. In the past, the sun trail was one of Nicholas II ’s favorite walks [1] .

Description
The trail passes through Oreanda , the peaks of Krestovaya and Ai-Nikola , the cliffs of Balogolovaya (Khachla-Kayasy), Pie, churches of the Holy Archangel Michael and the Intercession of the Holy Virgin . There is a branch from the trail to the sanatoriums of Lower Oreanda, Gorny, and Kichkine camp site. The height of the path above sea level varies between 133–203, and its length is 6,711 meters. The maximum angle of the road does not exceed 3 degrees.
In places of elevation there are stairs, and every hundred meters there are stations where all the necessary data are indicated on the plates. At the intersection with the roads there are signs to continue the trail. The first hundred-meter trail is concreted, the rest is covered with stone and sand materials. Near the sanatorium Livadia there are a sundial and a trail scheme, and halfway there is a rotunda.
However, the trail has undergone some changes: some signs are damaged by vandals, local residents trod on the contractile paths to cut off the bends of the trail, and in some places they got on it.
The trail is an important tourist attraction and attraction of the villages of Gaspra and Livadia.
History
Until 1861 , when the Old Livadia Palace was acquired from the heirs of Count Leo Potocki in the private ownership of the imperial family, the path passed only over Lower Oreanda. The need to connect the royal palace in Livadia with Cape Ai-Todor arose after the acquisition of the palace itself [2] .
Despite the mountainous terrain, the trail was managed to be constructed in such a way as to avoid significant elevation changes. Hence another name for it - "Horizontal". The trail has become an excellent place for the treatment of pulmonary diseases, in which patients need a complete absence of pressure and altitude differences.
When leaving for St. Petersburg in 1900, Nicholas II instructed the leader of Livadia, L. D. Evreinov, to lay a horizontal path from the “Pink Gate” in Livadia to part of the road in Upper Oreanda. In 1901, the work was completely completed. [1] .
The name "Sun Trail" appeared later, in Soviet times.
