Elastic sleeve-finger coupling

Elastic sleeve-finger coupling (MUVP) - an elastic coupling to compensate for dynamic loads. It consists of two coupling halves, fixedly fixed in one coupling half of the fingers , on which rubber bushings are placed, through which the fingers interact with the other coupling half.

Sleeve sleeve design

The driving and driven coupling halves in the form of round discs (1), which are mounted on the ends of the shafts with their hubs (2) using the keyed connection (3). Both discs are bolted together (4). In one of the disks, rubber bushings (5) are inserted between the bolt and the hole. Rubber bushings can smooth out vibrations and vibrations that occur on the drive shaft and to some extent compensate for dynamic loads during start-up and braking.

Coupling Specifications

The elasticity of the coupling is ensured by rubber bushings, which for greater compliance can have corrugations, and are able to deform when the coupling transmits torque M p . МУВП allows shaft displacement:

  • axial Δ 0 = (1 ... 5) mm;
  • radial Δ r = (0.2 ... 0.5) mm;
  • angular Δ α = (0.5 ... 1.0) °.

However, the displacements Δ r and Δ α increase the wear of the elastic elements and the uneven distribution of the load between the fingers of the coupling. In addition, such displacements additionally load the shafts in the radial direction. The advantages of MUVP are the simplicity of design and replaceable elastic elements, small overall dimensions and weight.

MUVP are standardized (GOST 21424-93 [1] ) for shafts with a diameter of d = (10 ... 160) mm and torques M p = (6.3-16000 Η • m).

The coupling halves are made of gray cast iron SCh 20, steel 30 or 35L. The material of the fingers is steel 45, and the sleeves are rubber with a tensile strength of at least 8 MPa .

Coupling calculation

The operability of MUVP is determined by the strength of the fingers and rubber bushings. The verification calculation of rubber bushings is performed according to the conditions of limiting the pressure on the surface of their contact with the fingers, and the fingers themselves - according to the conditions of bending strength.

The load per one finger is determined by the formula

F p = 2M p / (D • z) ,

where D is the diameter of the circle along which the fingers are located;

z is the number of fingers in the coupling (usually take z = 4 ... 8).

Clutch sleeve strength condition:

p = F p / (d p • l c ) ≤ [p] .

Finger bending condition:

σ = M / W 0 = 32F p (0.5 l in + s) / (πd p 3 ) ≤ [σ] .

In these equations:

d p - the diameter of the finger;
l in - the length of the sleeve;
с - axial clearance between coupling halves.

The permissible pressure for rubber is [p] = (2.0 ... 2.5) MPa, and the permissible bending stress for the fingers [σ] = (60 ... 70) MPa. If MUVP works in conditions of radial displacement of the shafts, then an additional radial load on the shafts arises. The average value of this load can be determined by the ratio F m = (0.5 ... 0.6) M p / D.

The operation of MUVP is accompanied by energy losses, which can be estimated as efficiency = 0.96 ... 0.98.
