Ro mesons are elementary particles with zero strangeness and isotopic spin 1, which are meson resonances with an even orbital quantum number [1] . They are grouped into multiplets of three particles: ro-minus-meson ρ - , ro-zero-meson ρ 0 , ro-plus-meson ρ + . Moreover, ρ - is an antiparticle for ρ + .
ρ mesons were first obtained in 1961 in several laboratories at once.
Features
The following are the characteristics of the lightest triple of ρ mesons.
| Particle | Quark composition [2] | Resting energy , MeV | I G | J P C | Q | S | c | b | Average lifetime, s | Basic decay mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ρ + (770) | 775.4 ± 0.4 | 1 + | 1 - | +1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 4,5⋅10 −24 | π + + π 0 | |
| ρ 0 (770) | 775.49 ± 0.34 | 1 + | 1 −− | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 4,5⋅10 −24 | π + + π - |
