The News International case is a criminal trial against News of the World , the leading UK tabloid published by News International , whose parent corporation, News Corporation, is led by renowned media mogul Rupert Murdoch .
Accusations
Employees of the newspaper are suspected of systematic criminal offenses: illegal wiretapping of private individuals (including the Royal Court and celebrities ), obtaining information from confidential sources by bribing police and special services , pressure on the police and politicians.
The first investigation was conducted in 2005-2007 . and it was resumed in July 2011 , when it became known about the wiretapping of the murdered schoolgirl Millie Dowler, as well as the relatives of the soldiers who died in Afghanistan and the victims of the 2005 London attacks .
A boycott from advertising agencies led to the closure of News of the World on July 10, after 168 years of existence. [one]
On July 6, Prime Minister David Cameron announced the start of two special investigative commissions, one of which will review the News of the World case, and the other will investigate the ethical culture of the British media . [2]
On July 13, 2011, News International publishing house head Rebecca Brooks filed a resignation letter with James and Rupert Murdoch , which was granted. [3]
