Biography

Born in 1835 in the family of the priest of the Vladimir diocese of John (Ivan) Yakovlevich Nikolsky and Elizabeth Feodorovna.

He began his education at the Shuisky Theological College.

In 1848 he entered the Vladimir Theological Seminary .

July 15, 1854 graduated from seminary with the title of student.

From January 27, 1857 to September 5, 1859 he worked as a mentor in the lower department of the Vladimir Theological College.

From September 5, 1859 to November 30, 1862 he served as the 4th mentor at the Shuisky Theological College.

In 1863 he entered the St. Petersburg Theological Academy .

On April 12, 1864, while studying at the academy, he became a monk with the name Methodius.

On April 18, 1864, he was ordained a hierodeacon .

In June 1867 he graduated from the full course of the academy with a degree of candidate of theology .

On June 11, 1867, he was ordained a hieromonk .

On October 14, 1867, he was appointed a teacher of basic and dogmatic theology to the Kostroma Theological Seminary . While working in a seminary, he temporarily taught the following subjects: the history of Russian literature, Latin, Russian and general civic history, a review of philosophical teachings, liturgics, and Holy Scripture .

On April 13, 1878, he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by His Grace Ignatius, Bishop of Kostroma (as defined by the Holy Synod from March 23-29, 1878) for a long spiritual and educational service.

From November 12, 1879, he was appointed rector of the Don Theological Seminary (as defined by the Holy Synod of October 31-November 9, 1879) .

From March 14, 1880 to July 2, 1882, being the rector of the Don Theological Seminary, he was a member of the Construction Committee for the construction and reconstruction of the buildings of the Don Seminary.

Since July 2, 1882 - rector of the Caucasian Theological Seminary in Stavropol .

On May 5, 1883, he was dismissed from the post of rector of the Caucasian Theological Seminary on his own request due to health problems, with transfer to the department of the Vladimir Diocese.

Since June 13, 1883 he served at the Bishop’s House of Vladimir Reverend.

Since November 10, 1883 - rector of the Baturinsky St. Nicholas Monastery of the Chernigov Diocese .

In the period from December 1, 1883 to December 29, 1884, while remaining rector of the Baturinsky monastery, St. Petersburg was called "on the order of the priesthood and the preaching of the word of God."

From May 13, 1888 - rector of the Annunciation third-class monastery in Nizhny Novgorod , with the appointment of a supernumerary member of the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Consistory.

Since June 8, 1888, being rector of the Annunciation Monastery, he was confirmed dean of the monasteries and a member of the School Diocesan Council of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese.

In addition, from October 31, 1888 to November 3, 1892 he was an indispensable auditor of church parish schools of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese.

On April 1, 1889, he was elected chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod district branch of the Diocesan School Council.

From February 25, 1891 to December 20, 1891, St. Petersburg was once again called "to the order of priesthood and the preaching of the word of God."

Since March 22, 1892 - he also served as a comrade (deputy) chairman of the Council of the Nizhny Novgorod Brotherhood of the Holy Cross.

On June 13, 1893, in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, he was consecrated bishop of Novgorod-Seversky , vicar of the Chernigov diocese .

On July 1, 1893, he was granted full bishop vestment with a miter from the Cabinet of Emperor Alexander III .

Since June 28, 1894 - Bishop of Ostrog , Vicar of the Volyn Diocese .

He died on June 13, 1898, at 15:40, in Kremenets . Buried in the Epiphany Church of the Kremenets Monastery.
