Biography

Beloki entered professional sports in 1998 by signing a contract with Euskaltel-Euskadi . In 2000 he moved to Festina, and in 2001 to Team ONCE. Beloki was a good mining specialist and sharer, which made him one of the favorites in his first three participations in the Tour de France: 3rd place in 2000 and 2001 and 2nd place in 2002. In 2001, Beloki won the Vuelta of Catalonia .

On July 14, 2003, during the 9th stage of the Tour de France, Beloki was second in the general classification, losing 40 seconds to Lance Armstrong . For 4 kilometers to the finish Beloki fell due to poor condition of the asphalt, was seriously injured, breaking his arm in two places and was forced to leave the race. Armstrong following him, in order to avoid falling, cut off the turn on the descent. This fall was the end of Beloka's career as one of the contenders for high places and in the next three years he did not achieve any major success.

In 2006, his name, along with many others, was featured in the anti-doping scandal of Operation Puerto , which caused him to miss participation in the Tour de France. However, on July 26, all charges were officially dropped from him [1] .
