Characteristics

The star is located 16 light years from the Sun, but despite its proximity, is not visible to the naked eye, its visual magnitude is 22.92 ^m . DEN 0255-4700 was on the 49th place in the list of stars closest to the Sun with a parallax of 201.37 ± 3.89 from 2012. The new parallax value is 205.83 ± 0.53 mas (2016) ^[2] . It is a brown dwarf of spectral class L8. Surface temperature - 1,700 K. The mass of DEN 0255-4700 is only 7% of the solar .

The object was discovered as part of the RECONS project to study stars located near the Solar System in 2006 ^[3] ^[4] ^[5] .
