Biography

Elizaveta Alekseevna

Representative of the senior branch of the noble family of the Golokhvastovs [3] . The son of a real state adviser Pavel Ivanovich Golokhvastov (d. 1812) from his second marriage with Elizaveta Alekseevna Yakovleva (1763-1822) [4] .

Educated at home under the guidance of professors from Moscow University . Since 1811 he began serving in the Moscow Archive of the College of Foreign Affairs. In 1817, he passed the candidate exam at Moscow University, which gave the right to the rank of college assessor [5] .

From November 9, 1831 [6] to 1847, Dmitry Pavlovich Golokhvastov worked in Moscow as an assistant trustee of the Moscow school district [7] , who was headed by Prince S. M. Golitsyn from 1830 to 1835, and Count S. from 1835 to 1847 . G. Stroganov . Repeatedly, "in the absence of a trustee," he managed the Moscow school district. In the early 1830s, he was actively involved in custody of students, supervised lecturing, and presided over final exams (the desire he expressed at the same time to chair the Board and Council of Moscow University). In the words of S. M. Solovyov , the figure of Golokhvastov at the university “expressed arrogance, tension, and formality; it was a figure of a beautiful, drawn quarter, who understands its high significance in a public walk in front of a mob of mob. ” He headed the committee for the creation of a dormitory at the university for self-study students in order to subordinate control and discipline to the common- duty students . As a result, his work resulted in the idea of building a new educational building at Moscow University . He supervised the Construction Committee established for this (1833-1837). [5]

Appointed (11/13/1847) trustee of the Moscow school district, taking this place after the forced resignation of Stroganov. In the university environment, Golokhvastov’s appointment was perceived negatively, regretting Stroganov’s departure (Golokhvastov was instructed to prevent any “public manifestations” on this subject, and even demanded the arrest of students who prepared a farewell address for Stroganov). Golokhvastov’s policy at the university expressed new government trends in connection with the offensive of the so-called "Gloomy seven years." Called in April 1849 to St. Petersburg, Golokhvastov received personal instructions from Emperor Nicholas I, which should guide his superiors in communicating with students: what kind of appearance should be required, how dangerous it is for a student to deviate from the established form and dress, and what kind of guardianship should be conducted over life students, "replacing them with parents and relatives." However, in July 1849, for health reasons, resigned and soon died. [8]

D.P. Golokhvastov - Chairman of the Moscow Censorship Committee and President of the Moscow Society of Naturalists (1847-1849). At a meeting of the censorship committee on December 12, 1841, he demanded that Gogol change the name of the poem Dead Souls : “No, I will never allow this: the soul is immortal; there cannot be a dead soul, the author is arming himself against immortality! ” [9] Honorary member of Moscow University [10] since 1848

Golokhvostov studied Russian history and published several articles in the Moskvityan , which subsequently appeared as separate publications: Comments on the Siege of the Trinity Lavra (1842), Voice for the Defense of the Russian Language (1845). He first published Domostroy (in the 1st book of the Temporary Book) and Acts of the Golokhvastovs (in Readings, 3rd year, Prince III).

After the death of his father in 1822, Dmitry Pavlovich received Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovo with the surrounding villages - 660 acres of land and 254 souls of peasants. According to S. M. Solovyov ,

Golokhvastov was famous for his horse factory; on the run his magnificent horse Goby was famous, and now an epigram appeared from the university walls:

Instead of Schelling and Astov
And the old Pegasus,
Dmitry Pavlych Golokhvastov
Goby goes around to us.
