Description

Water poured into the bowl of the fountain from the jaws of eight mascarons in the form of dog heads. Currently, as a fountain does not work.

The inscriptions on the bas-reliefs of the pedestal:

  • From the front: “Let a dog, a helper and a friend of a person, be sacrificed to science from prehistoric times, but our dignity obliges us to make this happen without fail and always without unnecessary torment. I. Pavlov. "
  • On the right side: “Having broken the plaster and made porous litter out of it, the dog prompted the experimenter with a technique, thanks to which the pancreatic juice flowing from an artificial hole does not corrode the belly. I.P.
  • On the left side: “By licking a wound festering in the neck from a congener after a deep operation, the dog saves him from death and saves him for further scientific research. I.P.
  • From the back side: “The dog, thanks to its long-standing disposition towards humans, its ingenuity, patience and obedience, has served, even with noticeable joy, for many years, and sometimes all its life, as an experimenter. I.P.

Nearby in the garden is a fountain-drinking bowl for dogs (the author is also I.F. Bezpalov ). The third fountain on the territory of the institute (in front of the building of the chemical laboratory) is not related to dogs: this is a bowl, on the parapet of the pool of which four metal sculptures of snakes are placed - the symbol of medicine. The fountain was designed by architects N. E. Lansere and A. A. Rassadin in 1935 and now also does not work.
