After the death of his father (1483), received by his will in the inheritance of years. Perevitsk and Old Ryazan , as well as a third of the proceeds from Pereyaslavl-Ryazan (hence the nickname). In 1493, with the Ryazan regiments, he participated in the campaign of Moscow rati to Lithuania and besieged the cities. Serpeysk and Meshchovsk occupied by Lithuanians.

In 1496, he concluded a treaty with his brother, the Grand Duke of Ryazan, Ivan Vasilyevich , according to which Fedor Vasilyevich promised "to keep his (Ivan) great reign honestly and menacingly without resentment"; in the case of Ivan’s childlessness, the great reign passes after his death to Fyodor Vasilyevich, and if the latter does not have children, his inheritance will go to Ivan , who, for his part, made a promise to “grieve” about his younger brother and his fatherland.

In 1502, he participated in the campaign of the Moscow army against the Great Horde Khan Sheikh-Mohammed , and then in the unsuccessful campaign of the son of Ivan III Dmitry Zhilka to Smolensk .

He died childless in 1503, giving Ivan III his entire inheritance before his death - a third of Ryazan cities, including Old Ryazan and Tula .
