Biography
Frederick was the son of the Bavarian-Landshut duke Stephen II and Elizabeth of Sicily , the daughter of the Sicilian king Federigo II . After the death of his father in 1375, Friedrich began to govern the Bavarian-Landshut Duchy, together with his brothers Johann and Stephen , and his uncle Otton . In 1376, the four dukes agreed that Stefan and Johann would rule Lower Bavaria, and Frederick and Otton upper, and so that no one feels slighted, change the managed territories every two years, but this agreement was never implemented. Otto died in 1379, and in 1392 the three brothers decided to divide the inheritance (since Johann did not like to finance the Italian adventures of his brothers, married to the daughters of Bernabo Visconti , as well as the contents of the magnificent courtyard of Stephen). Frederick inherited a part of the duchy with the rich capital of Lower Bavaria - Landshut .
In 1383 Frederick fought in Flanders on the side of the French against the British. He visited the court of his uncle Albrecht (duke of Bavaria-Straubing ) at Le Kenois and took part in the siege of Bourbourg . Then Frederick entered the service of the French king Charles VI , who decided to marry his niece Isabella , and delivered the bride to Amiens in 1385.
In 1387, Friedrich captivated the Archbishop of Salzburg Pilgrim II, and set the condition for his release to the termination of his support for the Schwabian Alliance of Cities .
Frederick was an adviser to the German king Vencel on legal issues, and was considered one of his most likely successors, but an unexpected death prevented him from repeating the path of his grandfather Ludwig .
