Biography

Ann Casimir Piram Decandol was born in Geneva on February 20, 1836 [2] .

He studied chemistry , physics and mathematics in Paris , and then studied in England [2] . Returning to Geneva, he became a pupil of his father [2] .

He was engaged in the study of flowering plants [2] . In his work on plant taxonomy, Decandol took such anatomical criteria as the structure of the stem or the location of the leaves [2] . In his experiments in the field of physiology, he studied the movement of leaves, twisting of antennae, the influence of ultraviolet rays on the formation of flowers , the effect of low temperatures on seed germination [2] .

He made a significant contribution to botany, describing many plant species [3] . Specialized in seed plants [1] .

Anne Casimir Piram Dekandol died in the canton of Geneva on October 3, 1918 [2] .

Family

Casimir Decandol was married toAnne-Matilda Mars , they had four children:

  • Raymond Charles de Candolle (1864-1935),
  • Florence Pauline Lucienne de Candolle (1865-1943),
  • Augustin Decandol ( Richard Émile Augustin de Candolle , 1868-1920), systematic botanist,
  • Reyne Marguerite de Candolle (1876-1958).
