All trains on the Tohoku line continue along the Negishi line ( 根 岸線 г Negishi sen ) to Ofuna Station. As a result, the route from Omiya Station to Ofuna Station is often designated as the Keihin-Tohoku-Negishi Line ( Japanese я 浜 東北 線 ・ 根 岸線 ) on maps and guidebooks. Trains of the line can be distinguished by a light blue stripe.

History
The Keihin line connecting Tokyo Station with the Takashimate Station in Yokohama was opened in 1914. (In 1915, the Takashimate station was called Yokohama station, while the station that had this name before was renamed Sakuragito ). The Keihin line was extended north to Akabane station in 1928, and then to Omiya station in 1932. This route is called the Tohoku-Keihin Line .
In 1956, the line was physically separated from the Yamanote line, on a section from Tabata station to Tamati station, which allowed trains to travel more often. End-to-end communication with the Negishi line was opened in 1964. In 1968, the line was physically separated from the Tohoku line. In 1988, fast trains appeared on the line.
Types of Service
Trains run every 2-3 minutes during peak hours and every 5 minutes in the daytime. Most trains are of the futsu type : (local (local)) and stop at each station. Also in the daytime, trains of the type kaisoku (rapid) go along the line. Fast trains do not stop at some stations in Tokyo .
Stations
- Local trains stop at all stations. Ambulances stop at stations marked with the symbols “●” and “■”. Stations marked with the “■” symbol allow transfers on the Yamanote Line.
