Life and work
He studied painting with the artist Martino Susino in Palermo, then in the workshop of Giglielmo Borremans . In 1730 he came to Rome and continued his studies in the workshop of Sebastiano Conca , the so-called. "Accademia del Nudo", which attracted students from all over Europe.
Having become an independent artist, in 1739 he joined the Congregation of virtuosos of the Pantheon . In subsequent years, he painted frescoes and altar paintings in many Roman churches and cathedrals. On the recommendation of Archbishop Cosenza , Cardinal Michele Kapichio Galeotta, he was awarded the title of Knight ( Cavaliere Lateranense and Conte Palatino ) by Pope Benedict XIV .
Around 1750 he returned to Palermo, where he created decorative murals for a number of local palaces and churches, in several cases, together with Vito d'Anna . After the artist painted a portrait of the Viceroy of Sicily Eustacio Laviefill, the latter awarded him the title of Director of the Palatine Mosaics .
