History
On August 19, 1879, the Holy See established the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Jiangxi, separating it from the Apostolic Vicariate of Jiangxi (today, the Nanchang Archdiocese ).
Later, the Apostolic Vicariate of South Jiangxi was twice renamed: on August 25, 1920 - into the Apostolic Vicariate of Jinan and on December 3, 1924 - into the Apostolic Vicariate of Jianfu.
On April 11, 1946, Pope Pius XII issued the bull Quotidie Nos, which transformed the apostolic vicar Jianfu into the diocese of Jian.
