From 1858 to 1870 and from 1884 to 1920, it acted as a secondary spiritual educational yawning. It became the first professional educational institution in the territory of Yakutia and played a very important role in the dissemination of literacy.

It was resumed on October 5, 2011 by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church . [one]

History

In 1800, a letter was sent to the name of Emperor Paul I from Prince Khangalassky ulus Ilya Shadrin to open a spiritual school in Yakutia. The Holy Synod decided to open a missionary-oriented spiritual educational institution at the Yakut Spassky Monastery . January 1, 1801, this school began its work.

Bishop of Irkutsk, Nerchinsky and Yakutsky, who visited Yakutsk in the summer of 1815, found the monastery school "unnecessary in terms of the small number of students and inappropriate for the purpose of instruction" and sent a request to close it. By the decree of the Synod of March 30, 1817, the school was closed and the question was raised of opening a spiritual school instead.

In the fall of 1818, a county parish school for sacred church ministers was created. For lack of own house, it was first housed in the cathedral almshouse , and then in the Spassky monastery in Yakutsk.

In January 1858, the Highest Command on the establishment of the Yakut Vicariate took place [2] . In the same year, the New Archangel Theological Seminary was transferred from Sith to Yakutsk, which later became Yakutsk. Rector Archimandrite Peter (Yekaterinovsky), teachers and students of the Novoarkhangelsk Seminary arrived in Yakutsk on September 12, 1858, and the training process began on September 17 [3] .

January 21, 1870 as a result of a fire, the building of the Theological Seminary and Theological School was destroyed. In this regard, on June 17, by the definition of the Holy Synod, the Yakutsk Seminary was transferred to Blagoveshchensk .

In 1884, through the efforts of the bishop of Yakutsk and Vilyui, Jacob (Dome) and the diocesan clergy, the seminary was restored.

The new two-story wooden building of the Yakut Seminary was built in 1887.

Until the end of the 19th century, it was miniature, with only 44 pupils in 1897. Her graduates were too few to provide the diocese with qualified clergy. But by 1911 the number of seminarians increased by almost 4 times (171 people), and the seminary in their number came out on top in the region.

At the seminary there was a church and a religious school. Shortly before 1910, seminary began to teach missionary subjects, which, however, almost did not concern the religious life of the Yakuts [4] .

At the end of the XIX century, almost a hundred people studied at the Yakutsk Theological College. It became the first professional educational institution in the territory of Yakutia and played a very important role in the dissemination of literacy.

On April 5, 1920, by the resolution of the Yakutsk Provincial Committee, all the spiritual schools of the year of Yakutsk were closed.

In 2006, with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II and the decision of the Holy Synod, the Yakutsk Theological School resumed its activities.

On October 6, 2011, with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill and the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Yakut Theological School was transformed into the Yakut Theological Seminary [5] .

In August 2015, Bishop Roman (Lukin) praised the activities of the seminary [6] :

The seminary is one of the most expensive diocese projects, but at the same time effective. And I consciously go to these expenses, sometimes cutting back some other expenditure items, because I understand that there will be no development of church life if there are no priests. Incidentally, St. Innocent of Moscow and the first bishop of Yakutia, Dionisy (Khitrov), spoke about this. It is no accident that St. Innocent once transferred the seminary from Sith Island to Yakutsk, and in Yakutia, church life flourished.

Over the past four years, after the Yakutsk Theological School received the status of a seminary, its pastoral department graduated from 16 graduates, the regency department - 15, and the courses of catechists - 14. All of them were placed at the disposal of the diocese, and, I can say, it became good for us. help.
