They live in the areas of the upper reaches of the Vychegda River and its tributaries Lokchim , Vishera , Keltma (respectively Syktyvdinsky district with Syktyvkar , Kortkerossky and Ust-Kulomsky regions of the Komi Republic ).
They have a mixed origin. In the XV century, the Upper Vychegoda Komi began to migrate from the basin of the Vym upstream of the Vychegda River and its tributaries. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries , Komi from Lower Vychegda and Udora from the northwest, from Sysola, and even the distant Krylu region from the southwest began to come to Upper Vychegda . Later, the settlement here was characterized by the Russian , as well as the Komi-Permyak and even Ob-Ugric ( Khanty - Mansi ) population. As a result of these mixes of ethnic groups and languages, the Upper Vychegodsky dialect of the Komi-Zyryan language was formed
The Caucasian Vyatka-Kama subtype of the sublaponoid type is anthropologically inherent.
In contrast to the Nizhnevychegodtsy ( Ezhvatas ), the Old Believers became noticeably widespread among the Upper Vychegoda. In economic activity, the role of hunting and fishing is high.
In 1990, the educational society Ezhvatas was established in the Ust-Kulomsky district , and the writer Lodygin Vasily Grigoryevich was elected the first chairman.
