Dredger death

Excavating shell "N. Chernyshevsky ”under the command of Captain Nemchinov and the scaffold“ Reushinka ”working with him left May 29, 1935 from Arkhangelsk for work in the Soroka port . On the way, they were caught in a storm with a wind power of up to 10 points. On the evening of June 2, Reushinka arrived at the port, according to its captain, contact with the dredger was lost 12-13 miles from Soroka during a deterioration in visibility due to a blizzard. For the rescue operation the tugs “Khabarov” and “Worker” were sent. The search for crew members yielded nothing. On the morning of June 3, 1935, the ship "Pyatiletka" on the island of Small Zhuzhmui discovered the bodies of 15 crew members. In total, according to the official version, there were 54 people, including one child. The crew’s bodies were transported to Arkhangelsk , where they were buried in a mass grave at the Kuznechevsky cemetery [2] .

The commission, composed of the head of the port facilities of the Northern Fleet Directorate of Dobrol, the head of the capital construction sector of the Northern Fleet Directorate, People’s Commissar Solovyov, senior officer of the People’s Commissar Abel, upon completion of the investigation, concluded that the cause of death could have been either a blow to an underwater obstacle and destruction of the hull or water penetration into the body through the bursts carried by the wave.
