Interesting Facts
- On March 27, 2002, Russia could hold a friendly match against Korea in Seoul: the Koreans offered to pay for the flight and accommodation of the team, as well as add a bonus of $ 200 thousand. However, the RFU refused because of possible problems with acclimatization when changing time zones.
- After the match against France on April 17, a fight broke out in the sub-tribune room at the Stade de France : the French players, furious with Valery Karpin's rough play, pounced on him. During the fight, Karpin himself was injured, as well as Yuri Nikiforov, Alexander Mostovoy and Viktor Onopko [1] . According to the general manager of the Russian national team Alexander Polinsky , Patrick Vieira, Lilian Thuram and Bixant Lizarazu participated in the fight [2] .
- For the first time in the history of the Russian national team, the match was not played out until the end, and its result was canceled (October 12, the game against Georgia): the reason was a sharp blackout at the stadium shortly before the break [3] .
