History
In 1972, in Zaporozhye, on the basis of the Stroitel sports club, the men's basketball team of the same name was formed under the leadership of Ivan Kharitonovich Rebristy. For 18 years, the team played in the championship of the Ukrainian SSR (second group), more than once challenged the entry into the first league, but because of financial difficulties it was never able to leave the second league. However, in the championship of the Central Administration of the DSO Avangard, the Builder in 1977 became the winner under the guidance of coach Alexander Petrovich Kompaniets. In these years, the famous Zaporozhye basketball players Valery Bakhtin, Anatoly Korolenko, Ivan Kobylyansky, William Konyushenko, Alexander Shirobokov, Valery Elkinson, Yuri Golov, Yuri Styopin, Vladimir Mikhailov and others played for the Builder.
In 1986, the team was headed by Alexander Shirobokov. Since 1990, under the leadership of Stroitel, he participated in the USSR championships among the teams of masters of the second league, and in the 1992/93 season. made his debut in the national championship of Ukraine among the teams of the first league (7th place).
In October 1992, the Zaporizhstroy Trust and the Zaporizhzhya Ferroalloy Plant (the director of the plant - Vyacheslav Gavrilov, the chairman of the trade union committee - Yuri Golov) established a regional basketball club, and since July 1993, ZZF OJSC has been the founder and main sponsor of the team, which was named Ferro Valery Elkinson was elected president of the club, Alexander Shirobokov was appointed as the head coach, and Anatoly Korolenko as the manager-administrator. In the 1994/95 season the team, having won first place in the championship of Ukraine among the first league clubs, won the right to play in the major league of Ukrainian basketball.
In the 1995/96 season, Ferro took sixth place among the teams of the highest league, which guaranteed the right to participate in one of the European club tournaments - the Radivoe Korac Cup . And although the Cossacks lost in the preliminary round of this Euro tournament to the Swedish club Astra Basket, on a continental level they learned about Ferro. In the 1996/97 season, having successfully played in the first stage of the Ukrainian Championship, the Ferro basketball players were among the 8 teams that made up the Super League, in which they finished seventh. Over the course of four seasons, Ferro managed to compete with varying success in the strongest basketball league in Ukraine, but at the end of the 2000/2001 season. the team left the Super League, taking the last 12th place. During the performance of Ferro in the country's elite championship, its two players, Kirill Pogostinsky and Alexander Pashchenko, were involved in the Ukrainian team. The team also included Kirill Bolshakov, Alexander Gorstka, Igor Chigrinov, Dmitry Schiglinsky, Ruslan Bessonov, Eduard Soobtsokov, Mikhail Zaitsev, Anatoly Maksimenko.
In the 2001/02 season a team called Ferro-Yabluko took third place in the top league of the championship of Ukraine.
From 2002 to the present, the team is called Ferro-ZNTU, since Zaporizhzhya National Technical University (rector Sergey Belikov ) provided funding for the participation of Ferro-ZNTU in the national championship.
The results of the performances of Ferro-ZNTU in the major league of the championship of Ukraine are as follows:

Ferro-ZNTU, led by Kiril Bolshakov, spent the 2008/09 season in the Ukrainian Basketball League, setting a club record - fifth place. The best players of the team were American legionnaire Jason Fontenet, Belarus Georgy Kondrusevich, Stanislav Balashov, Denis Yakovlev and Alexander Rybalko.
In the 2009/2010 season , as well as before the 2008/2009 season, all the strongest clubs in Ukraine were united in a single basketball league - the Super League. And in his very first season in the new league, Ferro-ZNTU becomes the owner of the Super League Cup and the bronze medalist of the championship. March 14, 2010 went down in the history of Zaporizhzhya basketball as a significant date. In a tense, interesting final match, Ferro-ZNTU won the Super League Cup, beating BC Kyiv with a score of 82:74 (16:18, 18:19, 20:19, 28:18). In the regular championship “Ferro-ZNTU” finished in second place, only Kiev “ Budivelnik ” passing ahead. In the quarter-finals of the playoffs, Dnepropetrovsk Dnipro 3-0 (89:72, 96:85, 97:86) was replayed dry. In the semifinal, Ferro-ZNTU lost to the long-time hegemon of Ukrainian basketball, Mariupol Azovmash 1: 3 (97: 103, 95:87, 97: 107, 83:90). And in matches for the bronze set of awards of the Super League championship of the season 2009/2010, BC Kyiv was thrice defeated - 105: 77, 79:73, 90:86. American legionnaire Charles Thomas was recognized as the most useful player (MVP) of the Super League in the 2009/2010 season. His total indicators - 714 points, 358 rebounds, 73 assists, 41 interceptions, 17 block shots. In addition to Thomas, a significant contribution to the team's achievements was made by Kevin Tiggs, Steve Burtt , Vincent Hunter, George Kondrusevich, Alexander Rybalko.
The return of Ferro-ZNTU after a 14-year hiatus to the European arena brought disappointment to Zaporizhzhya basketball fans. Having drawn in a draw (105: 105) in the away match of the FIBA Challenge Cup against the Lisbon , the wards of Kirill Bolshakov lost in the second leg - 72:77. In the 2010/2011 season, Ferro-ZNTU again secured the right to play in the Final Four of the Super League Cup, but took fourth place. In the regular season, the Cossacks finished sixth, but in the 1/4 series of the playoffs they exceeded this result, not missing the semi-final of the country's champion - Mariupol “Azovmash” - 3: 2. True, in the future, Ferro-ZNTU lost to Budivelnik (0: 3) and Goverle (1: 3), but the second consecutive entry into the quartet of the strongest Super League clubs certainly deserves respect. The best light forward of the championship was recognized by the American legionnaire of the Zaporozhye team Christian Burns (866 points, 447 rebounds, 77 assists, 84 interceptions, 28 block shots). Noteworthy are the indicators of his compatriots Keddrick Mays (772 points, 196 rebounds, 187 assists, 71 interceptions), Vincent Hunter (696 points, 355 rebounds, 58 assists, 32 interceptions, 77 block shots) and (314 points) , 150 rebounds, 39 assists, 22 interceptions, 14 block shots), as well as team captain Alexander Rybalko (506 points, 153 rebounds, 182 assists, 80 interceptions, 13 block shots).
May 25, 2012 Zaporizhzhya club again became a bronze medalist . In the playoff series for the Ferro-ZNTU medals, they defeated the capital's Budivelnik 3-1. American legionary , who brought the club 1143 points, making 128 rebounds, 188 assists, 86 interceptions and 13 block shots, received the title of the best attacking defender of the championship and became the top scorer of the Ukrainian Super League (22.4 points on average per match [2] ), and his compatriot Richard Guinn (887 points, 324 rebounds, 71 assists, 43 interceptions, 29 block shots) was recognized as the best heavy forward. American Jeremy Sheppell (770 points, 348 rebounds, 188 assists, 96 interceptions, 10 block shots), Alexander Rybalko (219 points, 95 rebounds, 89 assists, 32 interceptions, 4 block shots) also made a significant contribution to the achievement of the team, Belarusian George Kondrusevich (421 points. 160 rebounds, 59 assists, 33 interceptions, 4 block shots) and Artem Butsky (274 points, 90 rebounds, 234 assists, 66 interceptions).
2013 was marked by another “double” from Ferro-ZNTU. In January in Lviv, the team of Kirill Bolshakov took part in the Final of the Four Super League Cup. Having defeated MBK “Nikolaev” (80:70) and “Goverla” from Ivano-Frankivsk (87:69), Zaporizhzhya basketball players for the second time became winners of an honorable prize . Alexander Rybalko was recognized as an MVP tournament. The symbolic five of the best players also included the most productive basketball player of the Final Four Randy Culpepper, Richard Guinn and center-line Cameron Moore, who became the best “rebounder” and the most effective player of the tournament. In May, the Zaporizhzhya club won a set of bronze awards in the Super League championship. In decisive matches for the medals, Ferro-ZNTU won four victories over Lviv's Galichina - 97:79, 102: 89, 94:73, 87:67. The winner of the Audience Choice Award, established by Pavel Kravchenko, Chairman of the Board of ZAS PJSC, was the American legionary Randy Kulpepper, the main scorer of the Super League. His total performance - 1078 points, 239 assists, 90 interceptions. In addition to Randy, his compatriots made a significant contribution to his teammates: Cameron Moore (685 points, 464 rebounds, 52 block shots), Jeremy Sheppell (649 points, 152 rebounds, 156 assists, 78 interceptions, 21 block shots), Richard Guinn ( 760 points, 312 rebounds, 48 interceptions, 18 block shots), Daniel Werner (542 points, 254 rebounds, 108 assists, 55 interceptions), Artem Butsky (315 points, 185 assists, 77 interceptions), Alexander Rybalko (269 points, 147 rebounds, 103 assists, 64 interceptions).
The 2013/2014 season for FERRO-ZNTU consisted of two segments: in the first of them, the team played a full-time team with the involvement of foreign players, and when the services of the latter had to be abandoned due to financial turmoil, young people from the club’s first-league subsidiary took vacant positions . However, in the regular season the Cossacks took fifth place . But in the quarterfinal stage of the playoffs “FERRO-ZNTU” twice lost to BC “Donetsk”, which had the opportunity to strengthen the composition of experienced performers - 75:92 and 65:77. The best player of the Zaporizhzhya team that season was its captain Alexander Rybalko (316 points, 133 rebounds, 131 assists, 46 interceptions). Andrei Malysh (253 points, 113 rebounds, 17 block shots), Artem Butsky (172 points, 105 assists, 28 interceptions), American legionnaires Anthony Marshall (246 points, 67 assists, 23 interceptions) also made a significant contribution to the successful performance of the team. , LaRon Marquis Tarrell Dandy (241 points, 162 rebounds, 19 block shots) and Jake O'Brien (195 points, 17 block shots).
In June 2015, the club announced the cessation of existence due to lack of funding [3] .
