Novgorod-Seversky Vicariate

Novgorod-Seversky Vicariate is the Vicariate of the Chernigov Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate .

History

The diocese in Novgorod-Seversky was mentioned in the 16th century, when at the Brest Cathedral in 1596 , the bishop of Novgorod-Seversky John (Lezhaysky) , who had a pulpit in the Novgorod-Seversky Transfiguration Monastery, remained faithful to Orthodoxy, refusing to sign the union, for which he endured the Archpriest assured of the Council. Stradomsky, "dishonor."

March 27, 1785 Novgorod-Seversky Department was revived as an independent, being separated from Chernihiv . On July 27 of that year, the diocese was abolished, but then the decision was changed. October 16, 1799 it was again abolished, and its land returned to the Chernigov department.

On August 21, 1868, the department was resumed as a vicar of the Chernigov diocese, and was continuously replaced until the troubled 1920s .

After a long break, Novgorod-Seversky Vicar was reappointed only in 1998. After 2003, it was not replaced.
