Biography
Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt was born in Genoa ( Italy ). He studied in Rome with the architect Carlo Fontana (1634-1714). The need for military during the turbulent era of wars with Turkey forced Hildebrandt to first work as a military engineer in the army of Eugene of Savoy . In the postwar period, he returned to architecture. He later built a palace in Hungary for his military commander [1] . Since 1701 he was a court engineer. Built in Vienna, Salzburg , Linz .
His architect talent was noticed. Gildebrandt was considered a rival of the then court architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach . After the death of Erlach, Gildebrandt took his post by order of the emperor. Until the end of his life he worked in Vienna.
