Compatibility

Painted Pearl Pink Game Boy Advance SP with Wireless Adapter Connected

Like the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable , this device provides the possibility of multi-user play between multiple Game Boy Advance consoles, connecting to the same connector as the connecting cable. The range of a wireless connection is similar to the range of a Nintendo DS wireless connection; Nintendo recommends that players be ten feet (about three meters) apart for best results. [2] . It is worth noting that the adapter is not compatible with Game Boy Micro , since it has a different cable connector. However, there is an adapter model for Micro called Game Boy Micro Wireless Adapter , which is fully compatible with Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter [1] . But none of the wireless adapters is compatible with Nintendo DS, since DS does not support multi-user mode in games for Game Boy Advance [3] .

The adapter works best in Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen , and Emerald games. Using wireless adapters, up to 34 people can play together, gathering together in an in-game lobby called the Union Room , where they can fight with each other and exchange Pokémon. The wireless adapter was also used to transfer data to the game using the Mystery Gift option during various advertising programs related to the release of the Pokémon series of games [4] . In some games in the series, the adapter only supports up to five players [5] .

The main disadvantage of a wireless adapter is that the adapter does not have any backward compatibility; this means that it will only work with games programmed to support the adapter, automatically excluding all older games of the Game Boy line. As of July 2009, there are about thirty games for Game Boy Advance, most of which belong to the line of bit Generations (released only in Japan) and Classic NES .

Search Function

This feature is available when there is no game cartridge in the console. Simply turn on the console with the connected wireless adapter. It will automatically search for compatible games that someone is playing nearby. After that, the player will see a list of other players next to him and games to which you can connect and play together.

Marketing and Price

A wireless adapter came bundled with each instance of the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen games, but did not sell it bundled with any other Nintendo games. Nintendo of America also sold this device separately from the game in its online store for $ 19.99 [6] .

There are also a number of these devices manufactured by third-party manufacturers. Although they operate wirelessly, they are identified by the console as a Game Link Cable.
