Creativity
Maria Parr made her debut in 2005 with the book Waffle Heart (with illustrations by Bo Gaustad ). This is a fun book about the adventures of 9-year-old boy Trill (the narration is conducted on his behalf) and his classmate and neighbor Lena, who live in the fictional bay of Shchepka-Matilda. Lena acts as a ringleader and a generator of crazy ideas, somewhat reminiscent of Lindgren's Peppy Longstocking , and Trille behaves more carefully, sometimes fearing the consequences of their actions. A couple are constantly stuck in different situations - funny, touching, and sometimes dangerous. Watching the experiences of adults, they learn to value friendship and loved ones. The book was very warmly received by critics who called Parr the “new Astrid Lindgren ” [1] , received several awards and was nominated for the Braga Prize .
In 2009, the second book of the writer was published - “Tonya Glimmerdal” (with illustrations by Oschild Irgens ), who was awarded the Braga Prize in the category of “children's literature”. Like Lindgren in “ We Are All From Büllerby, ” Parr sings in his book the romance of rural life. The main character is the red-haired Tonya, fearless, resourceful and stubborn, but sometimes suffering from loneliness in a lost farm, where there are almost no other children. The book describes the barriers that arise between adults and children, and describes ways to overcome them by the example of reconciliation of the old Gunwald with his daughter, whom he had not talked with for many years. To help him, Tonya ventures on many things ... The girl’s mother studies the melting glaciers and is forced to leave for a long time, leaving her daughter's upbringing to her father. Parr teaches his young readers to the idea that you can’t hide from problems even in the deep Norwegian mountains - you need to solve them.
Maria Parr writes her books in the New Norwegian language . The Noregs Mollag Society for the Support and Development of the New Norwegian Language ( Noregs Mållag Nynorsk ) twice awarded it the prize for children's literature in New Norwegian . Both books of the writer are translated into several languages, including Russian .
Parr and Russia
Among Russian readers, the work of Maria Parr enjoys well-deserved popularity. For example, based on the results of the annual readership vote “Book of the Year”, held by the Central City Clinical Hospital named after A. P. Gaidara , in 2010 her book “Tonya Glimmerdal” took third place in the nomination “Best Book for Children” [2] .
Maria Parr came to Russia in December 2010 to present her new book, Tonya Glimmerdal, at the Non / fiction book fair, held at the Central House of Artists in Moscow [3] . She conducted the “10 Minutes on Values” program in the children's workshop area [4] .
The translation of Maria Parr’s books into Russian was done by the famous translator Olga Drobot . She marked “Waffle Heart” with the sign “Favorite Book of a Translator” [5] , which she developed specially for the Samokat publishing house [6] .
The performance according to the book “Waffle Heart” was staged in 2017 by “Creative Union 9” [7] .
