Pale-winged [1] or pallopterid [2] ( Latin Pallopteridae) is a family of flies of the Diptera .

Spread

Worldwide. There are about 45 species in the Holarctic , about 6 species in the Neotropics, and about 10 species in the Australasian region. In the fauna of Russia there are 22 species from 3 genera [3] .

Description

Small flies (2.5-7.0 mm), yellowish-brown in color with spotted wings. Vibrissa no. Legs are yellow. The larvae develop under the bark of trees (where they eat the larvae of bark beetles and gall midges) or in the stems of grassy plants [3] [4] .
