The left tributary of the Dniester of the first order (Black Sea basin). Length 46 km. The catchment area is 307 km². The basin area is 434 km², the slope is 2.2 m / km. The valley is trapezoidal, the channel is meandering, the width is 6-10 m, the depth is 0.5-1.5 m, the forest cover is 19%.
It starts at the villages of Obroshino (Pustomytovsky district) and Lapaevka . In the 1950s, not far from the village of Navaria, it was blocked by a dam, resulting in the formation of a well-known reservoir for the Lviv - Navaria . Between the villages of Demnya and Drogovizh merges with the Bison River. During the flood, part of the Bison runoff enters Sherek. The Sherek River flows into the Dniester near the village of Ustye .
The largest tributary of the Shcherka is the Stavchanka River (Bartatovka), 21 km long.
The river waters are used for industrial and domestic needs, which is why the ecological condition of the river is currently unsatisfactory.
