Hockey career
He made his debut in Espoo Blues on January 22, 2008 - this match was the only one for him in the adult team in the 2007/2008 season, he spent the rest in the youth.
In the summer of 2008, Lauunen, in the NHL draft in the seventh round, chose the Nashville Predators club under the general number 201 in the seventh round.
In the 2008/2009 season, spent 25 matches for the adult Espoo Blues team, 25 for the youth team. In the season 2009/2010 - 46 per adult, 4 per youth. In the 2010/2011 season, Jani spent all 60 matches of the CM-League regular championship and 18 playoff matches for the adult team, having put his hand in repeating the best result in the club's history - the silver medals of the Finnish championship.
Young promising forward decided to invite the national team to participate in the World Championships , held in May 2011 in Slovakia. It was not Jani’s debut - a few months earlier he played for the national hockey team in Euro Hockey . Already in his second game on the world forum - the quarterfinal match with the Norwegians, - Layunen scored a goal. After that, he appeared on the ice in all the remaining matches of the tournament. In the semifinals against Russia, Layunen also threw the puck ( video ). In the finals, the Finns beat Sweden with a score of 6: 1 (Lauunen scored an assist) and for the second time in history they became world champions. Thus, already the second team, which Layunen played during the season, repeated its best achievement in the tournament in which it participated.
