Logan County is a county located in southwestern Kentucky . The county seat is Russellville . According to the 2000 census, the district has a population of 26,573. Logan got its name in honor of the local leader during the War of Independence Benjamin Logan .

Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, the county has an area of 1,442.9 km², of which 1,439.2 km² (99.75%) is land and 3.7 km² (0.25%) is water [1] .

Demographics
According to the 2000 census, 26,573 people live in Logan County, there are 10,506 households and 7,574 families residing in the county. The population density is 19 people / km ². In the district there are 11.875 housing units with an average density of 8.1 people / km². The racial makeup consists of 90.70% White , 7.62% African American , 0.21% Native American , 0.17% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. Latinos of any race - 1.08%.
Logan County has 10,506 households in which 33.30% of families have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% of couples living together, 11.20% of women live without husbands, and 27.90% do not have a family. 25.00% of all households are composed of individuals and 11.40% of single people aged 65 years and older. The average household size is 2.50, the average family size is 2.96.
25.70% of the population under the age of 18 years, 8.40% from 18 to 24 years old, 28.50% from 25 to 44 years old, 23.60% from 45 to 64 years old and 13.80% from 65 years of age and over live in the district. The average age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.10 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.40 males.
The average household income is $ 32,474; the average household income is $ 39,307 [2] . Men have an average income of $ 29,750 versus $ 20,265 for women. The per capita income for the city is $ 15,962. 10.80% of families or 15.50% of the population live below the poverty line , including 20.50% of those under the age of 18 and 18.60% of those aged 65 and over.
Economics
Logan operates the only remaining unit from, at one time, Anaconda's largest copper mining trust, Amalgamated Copper , owned by Arco Aluminum Co.
