The highest legal award "Themis" is the oldest and one of the most respected legal awards in Russia. The Themis Prize was established in 1996 by the Moscow Club of Lawyers, and since 2007, the Russian Bar Association has been co-founder of the award. Since December 2014, the rights to hold the Themis Prize have belonged to the International Fund for the Support of Legal Initiatives.

For almost two decades, Themis has been enhancing the prestige of the legal profession and consolidating the legal community in Russia, contributing to the formation of the rule of law and strengthening the links between legal science, education and practice. The mission of Themis is the development of legal science, a worthy assessment of the activities of Russian and foreign lawyers aimed at defending the distinctions awarded to Russian and foreign lawyers, state and public figures of the Russian Federation and other countries.
The prize is awarded by decision of its expert council, which is annually formed by agreement between the co-founders of the prize. When choosing laureates, the members of the expert council of the award are guided not only by statistical and quantitative indicators, but also by the authority of specialists in the field of law and their merits to society and the state. For almost two decades, during which the Themis Prize exists, about 300 people from Russia and foreign countries, state and public organizations became its laureates.
The award is not limited to once and for all the approved list of nominations. Each year, members of the Expert Council offer new nominations, among which are: “Alma Mater”, “School of Law”, “Prosecutor's Office”, “Advocacy”, “Special Services”, “Notariat”, “Human Rights Defender”, “Public Service” , “Law and Economics”, “Justice”, “Lawmaking”, “Economics and Law”, “Russia and Europe”, “International Cooperation”. In 2014, the list was supplemented with the nominations "Memory of Victory" and "Veteran" dedicated to the memory of the seventieth anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Femida Prize Co-Founders
Among the co-founders of the Femida Higher Legal Award, in addition to the Moscow Bar Club, which was one of the founders of the Prize in 1996, there are several non-governmental organizations - the Femida Foundation, the International Union of Lawyers, the Russian Bar Association (part of the founders since 2007), International Foundation for the Support of Legal Initiatives.
Themis Foundation
The non-profit organization Themis Foundation dates back to 2000, when the Moscow Club of Lawyers joined forces with a number of Russian scientific, educational, and financial institutions, leading lawyers colleges and bureaus to increase the prestige and significance of the legal profession, promote law, and develop a legal culture institutions of civil society and the rule of law.
The Fund's mission includes: attracting financial and intellectual assistance for holding the Themis Prize award ceremonies, search for sponsors and partners, functioning of the organizational structures of the prize throughout the entire time between the ceremonies.

International Foundation for Legal Initiatives
Founders - Faculty of Law, Moscow State University M. V. Lomonosov, Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, International Union of Lawyers, Moscow State Law Academy named after O. E. Kutafin .
The Foundation combines the efforts of scholars and practitioners in Russia and abroad to develop proposals for improving democracy in society and developing law in the state, introducing socially significant moral and ethical standards of citizen and official behavior, building scientific models of social development and discussing them publicly.
The Fund supports the advancement by scientists of scientifically sound legal initiatives, the involvement of the authorities, the legal community and the active part of the population in their discussion. The Fund intends to develop and formulate the answers of civil society and the state to the challenges of the time.
Since December 2014, the rights to host the Themis Higher Legal Award have belonged to the International Fund for the Support of Legal Initiatives.
International Union of Lawyers
The successor of the Union of Lawyers of the USSR, the International Union of Lawyers unites lawyers and public organizations of a legal orientation of the countries of near and far abroad. Members of unions are over 30 thousand people. The Union promotes the consolidation of the legal community of the participating countries and seeks to strengthen business ties between practicing lawyers and scholars in order to achieve civil consensus, protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens.
Since its founding in 1989 and to this day, the chairman of the International Union of Lawyers has been the Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, PhD in Law, Andrei Adamovich Trebkov. In June 2014, the anniversary VI Congress of the Union was held, during which the delegates unanimously re-elected A. A. Trebkov as chairman, and the Coordination Council elected the leadership of the International Union of Lawyers and determined the main directions of the organization's activities in the near future.
Russian Bar Association
The Russian Bar Association is the largest public association, which includes practicing lawyers, scholars, government and public figures. The all-Russian public organization “ Association of Lawyers of Russia ” was formed in 2005, combining two professional unions - the Russian Union of Lawyers and the Union of Lawyers of Russia. The constituent congress of the Russian Bar Association was held in December 2005, gathering 725 participants from all subjects of the Russian Federation.
The Association conducts public examination of draft laws (including anti-corruption examination of regulatory legal acts), conducts public accreditation of higher education institutions of a legal profile, provides free legal assistance to the population, and organizes scientific and practical conferences. Since 2007, she became a co-founder of the highest legal award "Themis".
Moscow Club of Lawyers
The Moscow Club of Lawyers [1] is a public organization created by decision of notaries, legal scholars, lawyers, publicists, publishers and public figures. Club members can be persons with an impeccable reputation and who have made a significant contribution to the development of civil society.
Established in 1995, the Moscow Club of Lawyers has united well-known Russian and foreign jurists. To become a member of the club, the recommendations of its three current members and the approval of the Council are required.
Club members contribute to the development of legal reform, improve the judicial and law enforcement system of Russia, exchange opinions on professional issues, establish informal ties between lawyers of various fields of activity, protect professional and personal rights and interests of Club members.
