Socialist League of the New East

The Socialist League of the New East , abbreviated as SLNV, is a political emigre organization based in Czechoslovakia and founded in 1927 [1] . Its leaders were Russian Social Revolutionaries Viktor Chernov , V. I. Gurevich, Schreider and F. S. Mansvetov, Ukrainian Social Revolutionaries Nikita Shapoval , Grigoryev and Mandryka , as well as Belarusian and Armenian moderately socialist- oriented politicians [1] .

Chernov’s group broke up with foreign representatives of the Party of Socialist Revolutionaries before organizing a new organization [2] . Politically, the Socialist League of the new East defended the right to self-determination of the peoples of the Soviet Union [1] . This position caused the final gap between Chernov and most of the Socialist-Revolutionary emigres. Moreover, the position of the Socialist League of the new East on the right of minorities to self-determination aroused censure from the Workers and Socialist International [1] . The position of the League on the national question was worried by the Czechoslovak authorities, who were afraid of the consequences if political discourse took place in Czechoslovakia itself among its peoples [1] .

The organization published the Bulletin of the Socialist League of the New East, beginning in 1929. In the same year, Chernov left for the United States, and the organization ceased to exist.
