Blanca Valois

Blanca was the youngest daughter of the Duke of Carl de Valois from a third marriage with Matilda de Chatillon . Among her ancestors were the rulers of England, France, Aragon and Brittany, her older sister Maria was the wife of the Neapolitan Viceroy Carl of Calabria and the mother of Queen Giovanna .

In 1323, Blanca married her peer Karl , the son of the Czech king Johann of Luxembourg . They had three children:

• a boy who was born in 1334 and died in infancy
• Margarita ( May 25, 1335 - September 7, 1349 ); husband: (from August 3, 1342 ) Lajosh I the Great ( March 5, 1326 - September 10, 1382 ), king of Hungary since 1342 , king of Poland since 1370
• Catherine ( August 1342 - April 26, 1395 ); 1st husband: (from July 3, 1357 ) Rudolph IV the Magnanimous ( November 1, 1339 - July 27, 1365 ), Duke of Austria , Styria and Carinthia since 1358 , Count of Tyrol since 1363 ; 2nd husband: from March 19, 1366 Otton V von Wittelsbach ( 1346 - November 15, 1379 ), Elector of Brandenburg ( 1365 - 1373 ), Duke of Bavaria from 1347

During the life of Emperor Ludwig IV of Bavaria , Karl, with the help of Pope Clement VI, achieved the election of July 11, 1346 by the five Electors as the King of Germany , but this was not recognized by all. Meanwhile, Karl's father, being an ally of the French king Philip VI , took part in the Battle of Crescy on August 26, 1346, where he was killed. On September 2, 1347, Karl was crowned as the new king of the Czech Republic (under the name Karel I), and Blanca became queen.

On October 11, 1347, Emperor Ludwig IV unexpectedly died, and Charles was eventually able to become the king of Germany recognized by all, but Blanca had not survived before, and as the Queen of Germany was not crowned.
