Fevernova is the official ball of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . This ball was developed by Adidas specifically for this championship. It was presented on November 30, 2001 , and on December 9, 2001, the teams of South Korea and the USA played the friendly game for the first time.
Specifications
The ball was stitched from 32 fragments (20 hexagonal and 12 pentagonal ). Fragments consist of 11 layers, having a thickness of 3 millimeters. In order to improve the energy transfer to the ball with the foot, one of the layers is made of special foam based on resistant polyurethane with small gas-filled cavities. The inner surface consists of a dense woven synthetic fabric, providing spring and limited deformation of the ball. The outer surface is made of a compound of artificial polystyrene and natural rubber .
Design
Fevernova was the first official World Championship ball to move away from the usual, with the advent of Adidas Tango in 1978, ball design.
The surface of the ball is covered with a pattern of hundreds of circles of lighter color. On the ball in four places are stylized with tongues of red flame in a gold frame.
