The conclusion of the same-sex civil union in New Zealand.
Civil Unions have been legalized in New Zealand since April 26, 2005. The law was approved by the country's parliament on December 9, 2004 (65 votes in favor and 55 against) and applies to all couples (same-sex and same-sex) who do not have the right to marry. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Persons who have entered into a civil union are vested with the entire list of rights and obligations that ordinary spouses have, with the exception of the right to joint adoption of children. [5] [6] However, one of the partners can adopt a child on their own. [7]
