Biography
Born in a modest family of Portuguese farmers who came to Brazil.
In 1892 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Recife . Returning to Barreiros, he began legal practice and became known as a lawyer not only in his native city, but also in Rio Formoso and Agua Prete .
He soon began a political career by founding the Republican Party of Barreirus. In 1894 he was elected mayor of the city. A year later - in the state legislature, and in 1899 he became a federal deputy .
In 1907, Coibmra was elected Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco. From September 6 to December 13, 1911, he temporarily acted as governor of the state in connection with the resignation of the latter. In 1912, he temporarily retired from politics, returned in 1915, and was elected three times as a federal deputy.
In 1922 he was elected vice president of Brazil and at the same time received the post of chairman of the Senate of the country.
After the term of office of the vice-president in 1926, he again headed the state of Pernambuco and served as governor until 1930 , when he had to leave the country in connection with the outbreak of the revolution . He emigrated to Europe and was able to return to Brazil only in 1934 , but until the end of his life he remained aloof from politics.
