Geography
Lysychansk is located in the northwestern part of the Lugansk region 90 km from Lugansk, on the high right bank of the Seversky Donets . The city is located on the northern spurs of the Donetsk Range , overhanging the river. This picturesque area was once called the "Deer Mountains."
The city of Lysychansk is located in the continental climate zone of the steppe zone of Ukraine. Water resources are one of the most important wealth here. So, Seversky Donets is the main waterway of both the city of Lysychansk and the entire region. The length of the Seversky Donets within the city is 26.5 km. The Belenkaya River, the right tributary of the Donets, flows through the southern part of the city, the length of its section within the city is 7.7 km.
Story
The history of the development of the Donetsk coal basin began in 1700 with the release of the decree of Peter I on the search for ore deposits and is inextricably linked with the development of the city of Lysychansk - “the cradle of Donbass ”. Coal deposits in the Seversky Donets river basin were discovered by Grigory Kapustin, whose expedition was sent in 1721 to the Don region by Vasily Lodygin, the “ore informant” of the Berg collegium [2] .
During underground mining of coal on the surface, heaps are formed - dumps of rocks (there are 35 in the city).
The territory of Lysychansk, like other lands of the Wild Field, was not populated from the time of the Mongol-Tatar invasion until the middle of the 18th century. On the left bank of the Seversky Donets, the towns of Borovskaya, Trekhizbensky and others, formed by runaway peasants by the beginning of the 18th century, after the suppression of the Bulavinsky uprising on the orders of Peter the Great, were completely destroyed. They revived only after two or three decades. The farms were not destroyed, but were transferred to other areas (on a 1825 Boplan map) of a farm: Voronovo (founded by the Cossacks of Khokhlov), Sirotino (by the Cossacks of Popov and Sirotin), Borovenki (founded part of the resettled Borovsk people after the settlement of Borovskaya was burned), Metelkino (Cossacks of Metelnikov) ) and Smolyaninovo (Cossacks of Smolkin).
In January 1918, the publication of a local newspaper began here [3] .
In 1952, Lysychansk received the status of a city of regional subordination. In modern borders, Lysychansk was finally formed by the mid-1960s.
- In 1962, the city of regional subordination Severodonetsk was separated from the city of Lysychansk into an independent city of regional subordination.
- In 1963, the village of Novodruzhesk and the village of Privolje were included in the city limits of Lysychansk and received the status of cities of regional subordination.
- In 1965, Lysychansk was formed in the current borders as a result of the union of three cities:
- actually the city of Lysychansk (center),
- cities of regional subordination Upper (south), which at that time was the largest in terms of population and
- cities of regional subordination Proletarsk (north).

Transport
Urban transport
Minibus taxis
Minibuses are the main form of public transport in the city, which are used to transport passengers between different areas of the city. Moreover, all routes are laid in such a way that connect the central part of the city with other areas. The only exceptions are routes 114 and 116, connecting other parts of the city. Accordingly, the Central Market stop is the final and initial stop for most routes.
The start of work of minibuses, as a rule, begins at 6:00, and on flights that are most in demand, at 5:00. In the morning, the highest passenger flows on all routes of the city are observed, in comparison with other times of the day.
The end time of the movement of minibuses ranges from 18:00 to 22:00 and also depends on the demand for a particular route. Also on the most popular routes the number of rolling stock after 18:00 can also be significantly reduced. However, on days of mass festivities, the movement of most minibuses is extended until 24:00.
Minibuses in the city of Lysychansk follow the following routes [11] :
- 101 Central market - Chernomork mine - Central market (ring);
- 102A Central market - 41 microdistrict - Turn of the Melnikov mine - Sverdlova street - Central market (circular);
- 102B Central Market - 41 microdistrict - Turn of the Melnikov mine - Lenin Avenue - Central Market (circular);
- 103P Central market - 3 school - Hospital town;
- 105 Central Market - Gorgaz - Central Market (roundabout);
- 106 Central Market - Berezovo;
- 107 Central market - Dibrovka - Plant Proletarian - Central market (ring);
- 108 Central market - Krondshtatskaya street - RMZ - (railway station Lisichansk) - Central market (roundabout);
- 109 Central Market - RTI Plant;
- 111 The central market - the proletarian plant;
- 112 Central Market - Glassworks;
- 114 Glass factory - RTI Factory;
- 115 Central Market - Polevaya Street - RTI Plant;
- 116 Plant Proletarian - Plant RTI;
- 118P Central market - railway station Volcheyarskaya - Plant RTI - Hospital camp;
- 191 Central Market - Glassworks - RTI Plant
On the routes of the city, exclusively rolling stock of the Chasovoyarsky repair plant is used . Most minibuses are new Ruta models of various series, however, there are also older samples based on the Gazelles .
Buses
Bus transport in the city is a duplication of some routes of fixed-route taxis. The bus traffic interval is longer compared to minibuses, but the bus fare is lower. Also, until 2003, bus privileges for pensioners in the amount of 50 percent of the fare were presented in buses, but at the moment there are no such privileges.
In the old days, city buses duplicated most of the routes of city minibuses. However, most of the buses were gradually canceled. As of January 2015, buses were saved on only two routes:
- 109 Central Market - RTI Plant;
- 112 Central Market - Glass factory (there is no unique probability of bus running on this route).
The rolling stock used on the bus routes of the city is wholly owned by the Lisichansk Trolleybus Management Utility.
Trolleybuses
There are two trolleybus routes in the city (since 1972 ) - No. 1 and No. 3, route No. 2 is closed, the contact network has been removed.
Railway connection
The city has 4 railway stations and 2 stopping points:
- Lysychansk ;
- Volcheyarskaya ;
- Moving ;
- Nasvetevich ;
- about. n. 956th km;
- about. n. 942 km.
Lysychansk station is the main railway station for residents of Lysychansk and the neighboring city of Severodonetsk . It is located at ul. Vokzalnaya, 1. At this station, absolutely all trains, both suburban and long-distance, make a stop. You can get to it from the city center by walking down from the Central Market on ul. Malinovsky (15-20 minutes walk). Previously, regular communication between the city center and the station was carried out using minibuses No. 210/211 Lisichansk - Severodonetsk . However, in connection with the destruction of the Pavlogradsky bridge, the renewal of this route is impossible. Therefore, there is only an irregular connection by minibus 108, which arrives at the time of arrival / departure of passenger trains at the railway station.
Volcheyarskaya station is located in the southern part of the city. All trains are also stopped at the station, except for the formation of the Russian Railways. This station allows residents of the southern part of the city not to be dependent on the main station of the city.
At the stations Perezdnaya and Nasvetevich , as well as at stopping points 956 and 942 km, only suburban diesel trains make a stop.
Until May 22, 2014, railway communication was carried out with such cities of Ukraine and Russia as Kiev, Kharkov, Sumy, St. Petersburg, Moscow and others.
However, starting on May 22, 2014, the railway connection was completely discontinued due to the unstable political situation.
Nevertheless, after the stabilization of the political situation with the city, the Prigorodnoye communication was resumed first (from September 24), and then distant (from October 31), but according to a temporary scheme. So, the Suburban communication is limited to Vengerovka station (Vrubovka village) instead of Popasna, and for long-distance trains, the Lisichansk station is the terminal.
Intercity bus service
Regular bus service to many cities of Ukraine. In addition to a large number of intraregional routes, there are direct flights to Donetsk, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Berdyansk, Mariupol, etc.
Airport
The nearest airport is located 12 kilometers from the city center, located in Severodonetsk . It was built in 1968 to serve residents and workers of enterprises of the cities of the Lisichansk-Severodonetsk agglomeration - Severodonetsk , Lisichansk, Rubezhnoye . The airport is operated by the Dnieper trunk oil pipelines of PJSC Ukrtransnafta and will probably cease to exist in the near future due to lack of funding [12] .
Politics
In the 2004 presidential election, the city voted for V. Yanukovich (92.51%), V. Yushchenko (5.08%).
